How to grow your TikTok LIVE and get more viewers
A new TikTok stream often has only 2 or 3 viewers. This article tells how to grow a stream with no paid ads: what to do before the stream, in the first minutes and after it, and why chat games help you get recommendations.

How to grow your TikTok LIVE in short
Many streamers start with the same mistake: they start a stream and wait for viewers. This rarely works. You must do the work before the stream, in the first minutes of the stream and after it.
This plan works for a new account and for a streamer with an audience. It needs no paid ads and no fake viewers.
How TikTok selects streams to recommend
TikTok does not publish its recommendation formula. But the main idea is the same as for short videos: TikTok shows a stream to new people when the current viewers are interested.
TikTok probably looks at these signals:
- Watch time. A viewer who goes away after 3 seconds tells TikTok that the stream is not interesting.
- Chat activity. Messages, likes and shares show that the stream is alive.
- Gifts. A gift is the strongest sign of interest.
- New viewers. When people from the For You feed and the LIVE tab stay on the stream, TikTok shows it to more people.
So the main rule is simple. Do all that keeps a viewer on the stream and gives the viewer a reason to write in the chat.
What you need to stream on TikTok
Before you start, make sure that TikTok lets you stream:
- Age. You must be 18 or older to stream and to get gifts.
- Followers. You usually need 1,000 followers, but the number is different in different countries. If you do not have the LIVE button, get more followers with short videos first.
- A clean account. A violation of the Community Guidelines can close your access to streams.
You can stream from a phone or a computer. On a computer, OBS and TikTok LIVE Studio can add games, counters and other items to the stream screen. A phone can also show a game: read how to stream TikTok games from your phone.
Before the stream: find your viewers
Keep a schedule
Select 2 to 4 days a week and one time, and do not change them. Viewers learn that you stream at 8 PM on these days. Your account analytics show the hours when your followers are on TikTok.
Long streams usually work better than short streams. TikTok needs time to show a stream to new viewers, so stream for at least one hour.
Tell people about the stream
- Make a LIVE Event in the app. Your followers can set a reminder and get a notification when the stream starts.
- Post a short video 1 to 2 hours before the stream. Followers who see it remember you and come to the stream.
- Tell your audience in other places: your Stories, your group chats and your friends.
Select a good title and topic
People who look through the LIVE tab see the title. Write what happens on the stream, not "Hi everyone". For example: "The chat guesses the word: who is the fastest?" or "Ball Royale: join and fight".
The stream must have a clear topic. A viewer who stays for 3 seconds must understand what happens and what to do.
The first minutes of the stream
The first 10 to 15 minutes are very important. At this time, you have few viewers, and each viewer counts.
- Do not wait for "everyone to come". An empty pause is the main reason why viewers go away.
- Give the viewers a task at once. Ask a question, start a vote or start a game.
- Greet viewers by name. A viewer who hears their name stays longer and writes more often.
- Tell the rules every few minutes. New viewers come all the time, and each one must learn how to join.
How to keep viewers and wake up the chat
The strongest way to grow a stream is to let the viewers play and not only watch. A viewer who plays stays until the round ends and writes in the chat. TikTok looks for exactly this.
Chat games
A chat game runs on the stream screen and replies to the messages of the viewers. For example, Pogzo has these games for TikTok LIVE:
- Contextno. The chat guesses a secret word by its meaning. Each message is a guess, so the chat writes all the time.
- Would You Rather?. The chat votes for one of two options. The answer is easy: write 1 or 2.
- Ball Royale. Each viewer is a ball with an avatar and fights in an arena. One message before the battle is enough to join.
- Land Grab. The chat splits into teams, and the balls of the viewers take the map.
- Flag Quiz. The game shows a flag, and the chat writes the country. A fast answer gets more points.
- Word Reveal. The game hides a word, and the chat opens its letters from the start.
- Snake. The snake moves by itself, and each message puts an apple with an avatar on the board.
- Trivia. The game asks questions on different topics, and a fast correct answer gets more points.

The game runs the rounds and finds the winner, and you talk about the moves. So you do not have to find a new topic all the time.
Questions and votes
With no game, ask questions that have an answer of one word or one digit. For example: "Where are you from?", "1 or 2?" or "What is your guess for the score?". The chat does not reply to a difficult question, but it replies to a simple one.
Stream goals
Set a goal that all viewers can see, for example: "At 10,000 likes, I do a challenge". A goal gives the viewers a shared task and a reason to stay.
How gifts help a stream grow
A gift shows that a viewer is interested. TikTok is more likely to show a stream with gifts. But viewers send gifts when they see that a gift changes something.
So give each gift an action on the screen. In Pogzo games, the streamer selects what a gift does. It can open a hint in Contextno, make a ball bigger in Ball Royale or skip a question in Would You Rather. The viewer sees the result at once, and the gift becomes a part of the game.
Say thanks for each gift, by name. The viewer sees that you noticed the gift, and other viewers see that people send gifts here. To learn more, read how to get gifts on TikTok LIVE.
Joint streams and battles
A joint stream with a streamer of a similar size shows you to the viewers of that streamer. This is one of the fastest ways to get new viewers.
- Multi-guest. Invite another streamer or an active viewer to your stream.
- Battles (LIVE Match). Two streamers compete for gifts, and the viewers of both streams see both streamers.
- Select streamers with a similar topic. Their viewers are more likely to like your stream.
After the stream: short videos
The stream ends, but its best moments can continue to work for you. Record the stream and cut short videos: a funny answer from the chat, a win or a surprise gift.
The videos bring new people to your profile, and the profile shows your next stream. So videos and streams help each other.
What not to do
- Do not buy fake viewers. Fake viewers do not write and do not send gifts, and they go away after a minute. TikTok sees that the stream has no real interest and shows it less often. Your account can also get restrictions.
- Do not stream an empty screen. When nothing happens on the screen, a viewer goes away in seconds.
- Do not repeat the same content for the full stream. TikTok may not recommend such a stream. To learn what to do, read why TikTok limits the reach of your LIVE.
- Do not break the Community Guidelines. Music and movies of other people and banned topics can close your stream or your access to streams.
- Do not stop after three streams. The first streams are almost always small. Growth comes when you stream regularly.
Summary
You can grow a TikTok LIVE with no money. You need a regular schedule and a stream where the viewer has something to do. Each day, 40 minutes of stream with Pogzo games are free.
